Storage and Disposal of Epoxy Resin

Proper storage of epoxy resin helps maintain its quality, extend its shelf life, and ensure safe use. Always follow the recommendations below when storing and disposing of epoxy resin products.

Storage Conditions

Epoxy resin (Component A) and hardener (Component B) should be stored:

  • In a dry and well-ventilated area
  • In tightly closed original containers
  • Protected from direct sunlight
  • At a temperature between +15°C and +35°C
  • Away from moisture, dust, and contamination

Always keep resin and hardener in separate, clearly labeled containers.

Protection from Heat and Fire

Do not store epoxy resin near:

  • Radiators and heating systems
  • Gas appliances
  • Electrical heaters
  • Open flames
  • Sparks or other ignition sources

Maintain a minimum distance of 2 meters from heat sources whenever possible.

Excessive heat may damage the material, reduce its shelf life, or cause unwanted chemical reactions.

Storage Safety

  • Keep out of reach of children
  • Keep out of reach of pets
  • Store separately from food, beverages, and animal feed
  • Do not transfer materials into food containers or unlabeled packaging

Always ensure that containers are properly sealed after each use to prevent contamination and moisture absorption.

Cold Weather Storage

If epoxy resin becomes cloudy, thickens, or crystallizes due to low temperatures, do not dispose of it immediately.

In many cases, the material can be restored by slowly warming the closed container in warm water or by placing it in a warm room until it returns to its normal consistency.

Do not use direct flames or excessive heat to warm epoxy resin.

Environmental Protection

Do not pour liquid resin, hardener, or mixed epoxy into:

  • Sinks
  • Drains
  • Sewers
  • Soil
  • Natural waterways

Epoxy resin components may be harmful to the environment before curing.

Disposal of Unused Material

Small amounts of unused mixed epoxy resin should be allowed to fully cure before disposal.

After complete curing, the hardened material can generally be disposed of as solid household waste in accordance with local regulations.

  • Unused liquid resin and hardener should be disposed of according to local hazardous waste requirements.

Disposal of Containers

  • Empty containers should be drained completely before disposal
  • Containers containing liquid residue should be handled according to local waste regulations
  • Never burn resin containers or leftover materials

Shelf Life

The typical shelf life of unopened epoxy resin and hardener is approximately 12–24 months from the date of manufacture, depending on the product.

Always check the manufacturer's recommendations and batch information before use.

Important Notice

Improper storage may negatively affect the performance, appearance, curing behavior, and final strength of epoxy resin.

For best results, always follow the storage instructions provided by the manufacturer of your specific epoxy resin system.
