Safety Instructions When Working with Epoxy Resin

Your safety is important. Always follow the recommendations below when working with epoxy resin, hardeners, pigments, and related materials.

General Safety Requirements

  • Working with epoxy resin is not recommended for pregnant women or individuals under 18 years of age.
  • Always work in a well-ventilated area.
  • Follow the temperature and humidity recommendations specified by the manufacturer.
  • Do not smoke, eat, or drink while working with epoxy resin.
  • Keep all materials out of reach of children and pets.

Personal Protective Equipment

When working with epoxy resin, always use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE):

  • Nitrile gloves
  • Protective clothing, apron, or coveralls
  • Safety glasses or goggles
  • A respirator suitable for organic vapors when working in enclosed spaces or for extended periods

Avoid direct contact of resin, hardener, or mixed epoxy with skin, eyes, and mucous membranes.

Allergic Reactions and Sensitivity

Some individuals may experience allergic reactions or individual sensitivity to epoxy resin components.

If you have a history of allergies, asthma, skin sensitivity, or respiratory conditions, consult a physician before working with epoxy resin.

Immediately stop working with the material and seek medical advice if you experience:

  • Skin redness
  • Rash
  • Itching
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Eye irritation
  • Any other unusual symptoms

Skin Contact

If epoxy resin or hardener comes into contact with the skin:

  1. Remove the material immediately using wet wipes, paper towels, or a clean cloth.

  2. Wash the affected area thoroughly with warm water and soap.

  3. If necessary, isopropyl alcohol, alcohol wipes, or acetone may be used to remove uncured resin, followed immediately by washing the skin with soap and water.

Do not use solvents on damaged or irritated skin.

Eye Contact

If resin or hardener gets into the eyes:

  1. Immediately flush the eyes with clean running water for at least 15 minutes.

  2. Remove contact lenses if present and easy to remove.

  3. Seek medical attention immediately.

Inhalation

Avoid inhaling vapors, fumes, or sanding dust.

If you experience dizziness, headaches, respiratory irritation, or discomfort:

  • Move to fresh air immediately
  • Stop working until symptoms disappear
  • Seek medical advice if symptoms persist

Accidental Ingestion

Do not eat, drink, or store food near the work area.

Never ingest epoxy resin, hardener, or mixed epoxy.

If swallowed:

  • Do not induce vomiting
  • Rinse the mouth with water
  • Seek immediate medical attention

Sanding, Drilling, and Cutting Cured Epoxy

When sanding, drilling, cutting, polishing, or machining cured epoxy resin:

  • Wear a dust mask or respirator rated for fine particles
  • Use safety goggles
  • Wear appropriate work clothing
  • Ensure adequate ventilation or dust extraction

Fine epoxy dust may irritate the respiratory system, eyes, and skin.

Storage

  • Store resin and hardener in tightly closed original containers
  • Protect from direct sunlight
  • Store in a cool, dry place
  • Keep away from heat sources, sparks, and open flames
  • Do not allow materials to freeze unless specifically permitted by the manufacturer
